Transitioning routes of administration (ROA) can help minimize the risks of substance use, like reduce the transmission of HIV and hepatitis C, soft tissue infections, abscesses, vein damage, endocarditis, and reduce harmful waste such as syringes discarded in public spaces. Transitioning routes of administration can also allow some people who use drugs (PWUD) to start with a lower dosage and titrate up until reaching their desired dose.
